Anna’s Supervision Story

Q: What prompted you to reach out to Justine as an "outside" supervisor?

A: I reached out to Justine when a friend/colleague highly recommended her as a supervisor who works well with self-of-the-therapist exploration in addition to her knowledge and experience with internal family systems.

I felt it was important to find a supervisor who specifically had mastered the art of supporting therapists with their own stuff, but in a supervisory/boundaried way. And I found that with Justine!

Q: What was your experience of your work together?

A: I always looked forward to meeting with Justine because I knew she would welcome me in whatever form I was showing up in. I always felt welcomed (and so did my embarrassed, imposter syndrome parts) and that made for an honest, growth oriented supervisor-supervisee relationship.

I also learned a lot about internal family systems and exploring cases with this lens helped me strengthen my confidence using that modality.

Q: How did your work together impact you?

A: My work with Justine helped build my confidence as a therapist because of the way her empowering questions allowed me to decide how I wanted to practice and show up with my clients. She also helped me re-orient to what my role is as a therapist.

Q: Anything else you would like to share with a prospective supervisee?

A: I highly recommend working with Justine! You can trust her to show up as herself and experiencing her authentic self will also give you permission to show up as yourself.

Though I learned so much from Justine and her experience, I did not experience a power imbalance which felt so refreshing and empowering.
