Mason’s Supervision Story

Q: What prompted you to reach out to Justine as an "outside" supervisor?

A: A colleague/friend of mine and I reached out to Justine because we were both noticing a need for supportive voices outside of our "bubbles" at our clinics.

Justine's therapeutic and personal values resonated with mine when I knew her as my professor in graduate school, and continued to affirm that throughout my supervision experience.

Q: What was your experience of your work together?

A: My experience of Justine as a supervisor was one of warmth, humor, and genuine interest. I felt welcome to bring all of my parts to the supervision space and advocate on my own behalf, which is so necessary to a developing therapist.

Justine’s presence of Self naturally encouraged my own, so I could then take that forward and extend the invitation in turn to clients. I could just list the 6 C's of IFS, and that would go a long way to describing my experience of our work together!

Q: How did your work together impact you?

A: There’s this sense of legacy and community Justine carries into supervision. She would give context of past wisdom from her own experiences with her past supervisors and the folks she’s worked with. It really helped strengthen my sense that the process of therapy is about connecting as humans and that none of us are on this journey alone.

Q: Anything else you would like to share with a prospective supervisee?

A: Warning! Experiences May Include: Personal growth, ditched imposter syndrome, widely extended metaphors, acceptance of neurodivergence, enriched curiosity, deconstruction of dominant narratives, a safe landing space for grief, and shared references to the Buffyverse.
